That internet phenomenon has been slooowed down 800% and it sounds quite unreal. Nice one, Shamantis.

For the Love of Jungle #5

DJ Hype, like Dillinja and all the big Jump-up DJs, has been around for decades. Hype’s Jungle often consists of very melodic bass lines. In the case of this track, We Must Unite, the bass line spans a fair few octaves which I think is pretty cool. I’m stealing the idea for my tunes.

I have We Must Unite as part of a 12” compilation album called Still Smokin which was put out in 1996 on G-Line Records. It features tracks from Hype’s Ganja Records label and, fellow True Playaz man, Pascal’s Frontline Records.

Got this track as part of a compilation called Nu Skool Flava (what an awful name for an album) that was put out by Sound of the Underground Records (S.O.U.R.) in 1996. It is a remix by L Double of Elizabeth Troy’s single-a-long Jungle anthem, Let Me Be. I love the second drop at 3.42′.

I got this track as 10” promo from an amazing record shop which is opposite where I used to live on the Essex Road in the Angel. The shop is called Haggle Vinyl and is run by a short, grumpy Jewish who doesen’t like haggling. “Me a Bad Man” is by Bay B Kane and is the only track I have by him. It was put out on Kik-Man Records in 1994 and has militant, agressive drums that err to the Hardcore side of Jungle. It sticks to the magic tripartite formula of breaks, sub-bass and a sample of a Yardie saying something, making it an angry piece of music.

This remix by Throwing Snow is taken from the “Mind Over Matter Remixes Part 2″ EP on Unique Uncut which has just dropped. Artists contributing to the EP include Altered Natives, Milyoo, Mr Lager and Kilc. It’s really, really good.

Welcome to my new series of posts based around my favorite genre of music: Jungle. The series will consist of tunes from my Jungle vinyl collection that I will record into my computer, make as load as possible and post up for you to save. I am only going to post up things that I believe are out of print and that you could only get second hand and will provide as much information as possible as to where you can get hold of the tracks.

As well as my vinyl collection I am going to post up DJ mixes and will re-post the Jungle tracks already available on the site as part of the series.

First up is vocal lead track by Kemet Crew called “The Fruit”. I got this track as part of the Classic Jungle & Old Skool E.P. compilation put out on Junlge Nation. I love the vocals at 3.18′.

Solo had this bootleg free to download on his Soundcloud profile. Consequently, I feel it’s cool to put it up here on 320 kbps download so you can play it in your sets. ‘Tis a cool little reworking that’ll work on the floor for sure.

I love Au Revoir Simone, its nothing new. This remix of ‘Another Likley Story’ by Neon Indian isn’t anything new either, but I’d thought share because it’s très good. The track is taken from the forthcoming Au Revoir Simone remix album ‘Night Light’, due out July 5th.

Cepia's 2007 Natura Morta LP

I found this producer through the excellent Ghostly Discovery iPhone App, from the very excellent Ghostly label. Can’t get enough of Ghostly right now, need to hear more from Cepia in the future. The track below is called “Itcha” and is taken from 2008’s Ghostly Swim.

Andres II is an ode to Hiphop, Disco & House straight from the D. It is too early to be certain, but this might be one of 2010’s best long players. Its almost like listening to doggystyle and donuts at the same time.

When Flying Lotus and Samiyam eat either parsnip or egg plant they become….

…violently ill. Both allergic. Nasty things, allergies.

Samiyam brings his signature synths / heat and Flying Lotus brings his token drum patterns / ruckus. Two dons amongst men.
