One of my best friends over here, who runs this great blog, made this mix for me almost 2 years ago. He was talking about The Beach Boys and I told him that I didn’t really know much about them. It has been a while.

But, our next mix comes from one of London’s best kept secrets, Budgie. He is an integral member of the Livin’ Proof collective and spend the rest of his time working at Honest Jons and making tunes. We posted his last mix when it came out and we weren’t the only ones to rave about it. Even though it was a free download, he pressed some up and they sold out almost immediately throughout London’s best record shops.

His mixes are well-crafted excursions into boogie. He always features at least one of his edits in them too – so you know you’re always getting something you haven’t heard before, even if you know some of the tunes.  Like most of our other mixes, it is something you can put on at any time.

New mix I made for Stopmakingsense Festival. We’re curating a stage there on August 12th. This mix is a collection of my favourite songs of the moment. It is also quite indicative of what I’d play on a night out, which is basically hiphop and house. A few of the songs mean a lot to me, the two Royalty tunes are from the first EP I put out on my new record label Five Easy Pieces. Gilles Peterson even included Heat Ray as one of his favourite tunes of 2011 so far. Thanks Gilles! Other than that most of the songs have been on constant repeat on my ipod and in my dj sets.

Check out the mix Budgie put out via SpineTV – its phenomenal. He’s part of the Livin’ Proof and Tomorroww crews, both formidable in their respective circles. You can tell a lot of effort went into this by the edits and clever track selection. Loved his last mix (called Budgie’s Boogie Birdcall, which I somehow, annoyingly, can’t find) and I’m sure his next one will be just as intricate and fresh. Listen and learn.
