Heard this track for the past few months on Benji B‘s excellent Radio 1 show. I don’t know much about Thundercat other than he’s American and is a serious bass player. If you like Stanley Clarke or Earth, Wind and Fire et al then check him out. I don’t know if an album is to appear but in the meantime here’s a link to a video of the track which has been ripped from the radio.
Acker Bilk is much slower in tempo than the rest of the music on Chad Valley’s forthcoming EP, Equatorial Ultravox, which is available from June 20th on Cascine. The track has some absolutely cringeworthy, yet quite beautiful, vocal auto tune on one of the best melody lines I’ve heard for ages: sensual. You can see Chad, along with other Blessing Force people, at his EP launch on June 16th at Electorwerkz.

Hotflush are having a great run of releases at present; their previous 12” by Lando Kal being one of the best tunes I’ve heard for ages. The return of Roska maintains this current good form. The tune below, Abrupt, is the b-side to Error Code which you can download here. The elements in the simple sounding track are effectively controlled so the music is spacious, giving the bass line even more impact at the drop. I’m looking forward to attempting to blend this one on a rig.

Deadboy’s new EP, Here, was released yesterday on Numbers. Below is my favorite track, Ain’t Gonna Lie, which consists of a bouncing ping pong ball sound and bass that’s fatter than your Mum.

I absolutely love this tune. I first heard it in BTGMX006 that EFA submitted back in February and have been looking forward to its release ever since. The scalic synth line is really catchy and I like the way the vocal is used sparingly, not overwhelming the other parts in the tune. Go and get a copy here and hear more of Andy Mac’s music here.

Chad Valley‘s new EP, Equatorial Ultravox, is to be released by Casine on June 20th. Below is Fast Challenges for you to download; a four-to-the-floor, reverb soaked piece of auto-tuned musical cheese. The track is, like those from Hugo’s previous EP, a thing of beauty. Chad Valley is playing on the BTG Beach Bar at Stop Making Sense Festival this summer; probably the perfect location for a set from this Crooner.

Arsonist, by Urban Shakedown, came out on part 3 of Labello Blanco Recordings‘ Jungle Massive vs The Hardsteppers series in 1995. It features the vocals of DBO General.
I remember hearing Zinc and Friction drop it at Exit Festival in 2007 and it sounded bigger and better than any of the other modern jump-up Drum and Bass they played that night (maybe with the exception of Konflict’s Messiah): mighty Jungle music.

P-Funk is Pascal of True Playaz fame. This tune, P-Funk Era, was released in 1995 on Pascal’s label, Frontline Records. It samples Be With You by Mary J Blige. Quite simply a classic. If you don’t know this track then you are in for a treat.
