Doom Vomit (Fat Controller Remix) Doom Vomit (Fat Controller Remix)

An old Fat C remix of Doom‘s Vomitspit track, originally from Doom’s 2004 grub-themed album, Mm.. Food (produced by Drum and Knowledge).

Synkro – Why Don’t You

Synkro Why Dont You Synkro Why Dont You

Synkro has a new EP out on Apollo (a sub label of R&S), Broken Promise. Keeping with the down tempo vibe, all 4 tracks are immaculately produced and instantly pleasing. All come free with the quintessential gated synths, oscillating sub and crunchy, snapping snares. The stand out track for me was ‘Why Don’t You’ as it sprinkles in a bit of RnB for good measure.

Trikk Jointly Trikk Jointly

Jointly speaks for itself, an absolute killer dancefloor track with a nice balance between bass and soulful house. Cop this from the good people at Man Make Music and look out for Trikk, a serious one to watch this year.

El Kid Snow Amnesia (Samoyed Remix) El Kid Snow Amnesia (Samoyed Remix)

Can’t get enough of this track. It combines dusty cinematic soundscapes with down and dirty techno percussion. Cop the Samoyed Remix here.

Dauwd Acireams Dauwd Acireams

Welsh producer Dauwd dropped What’s There back in November. A very consistent release and instantly appealing. The single received a lot of love at the back end of last year along with the track Ikopol, but no real mention of Acireams, my personal favourite on the release. Dauwd is on Pictures Music alongside the genius of Koreless, Lapalux and Seams… and rightly so.

Symmetry The Maze Symmetry The Maze

Symmetry (Johnny Jewel and Nat Walker) famous for creating the score to Drive, have dropped a new release: Themes For An Imaginary Film. I’m not sure if these tracks are literally spill over from Drive, as the style is practically identical - regardless it stands alone as a very strong 2 hours of cinematic slickness. Out of all 37 tracks, The Maze stood out as my favourite. Wait for the super slow-mo 4×4 drop halfway through.

Redshape On Da Floor (Original Mix) Redshape On Da Floor (Original Mix)

I’ve been digging for a lot of new music recently – most of it techno influenced – a thirst brought on by my trip to the Berghain Warehouse Project back in December. Out of all the music I’ve found – which I’ll share over the next few months – this had to be the first track. Redshape is on the Frankfurt based Running Back Records - a label which seems to be pushing a whole host of artists in the same vein. Definitely check them out! On Da Floor is an epic 8 minute  track which only really kicks in around the 4:30 mark. It’s massively worth the wait.

Pedestrian Hei Poa Pedestrian Hei Poa

I just discovered Pedestrian today. He’s signed to Push and Run and debuted at Boiler Room B2B with Gang Colours. When listening you can’t help but be reminded of Gold Panda, intricate organic samples, sun drenched synths and a consistent low end sub. He’ll blatantly be one of the handful of newcomers that people urge you to watch out for. Get it.

The Whispers Keep On Loving Me The Whispers Keep On Loving Me

This track, if nothing else, makes me grin. It’s probably the instant connection to the simple yet brilliant video. It’s not dissimilar to countless other tracks from the early 80s boogie funk era but up there with one of my favourites. It was dropped in ’83 on the album Love for Love. Also check out the Onra edit.

Howlin Wolf Smokestack Lightning Howlin Wolf Smokestack Lightning

This is what I love about blues right here: one riff, one chord and some dude with an insanely dope name wailing in agony. Raw and heartfelt.

I came across this 2562 song on the Modeselektor EP – Modeselektion Vol. 02 (2010, Monkeytown Records) a wicked compliation series really worth checking out. ‘The Wind Up’ is the best song I’ve heard from 2562, utilizing a 4×4 anchorage with influences from techno old and new. Perfect for some quality family time around the Christmas dinner table.

Gonjasufi Sheep Gonjasufi Sheep

A Gonjasufi track can definitely be a little hit and miss. Nice ideas never really reaching their potential. This track however is one of the most fascinating songs I’ve heard in a while. It seems to combine a weird folk ballad vibe, classical Indian sounds and 1950′s epic movie score samples (E.g. El Sid). Roll this all into one and you get ‘Sheep’. Love it.

Machinedrum Pillow Lustt (Mp3) Machinedrum Pillow Lustt (Mp3)

Why have I only just started to appreciate Machinedrum for his god like genius stature? The Lucky Me Brooklyn beat-smith has been around for a while, releasing his most impressive work (in my opinion) in 2009 with the LP ‘Want To 1 2‘. The release is splattered with elements of disco, post-Dabrye hip hop and melodramatic electro …sitting togther like old chums over a beer acting as if they’d never been apart. One piece of advice I would give is to check out the instrumental version. The beats are strong enough to hold their own without adding any unnecessary mediocre vocals / rap.
