‘Everyone Needs A Theme Tune’, released this week, is the title track of Bashmore’s 4th release, this time on the newly formed London based PMR records.
The four to the floor kick-snare rhythm, sporadic sandpaper shaker sample with triplet hi-hat and guitar motives smacks of 80s Quincy Jones Disco and I keep expecting to hear MJ swoop in singing ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’.
This solid foundations’ toe-tapping capacity is further enhanced by a regularly embellished syncopated chord progression on top of which goes Julio’s hypnotically lilting synth theme, providing this hectic track with an ethereal quality.
Already on mass circulation in clubs all around the land, listeners will be reaping the reward: whistling Julio’s theme tune for days as I have until vexed housemates exercise their vengeful wrath.
‘Everyone Needs A Theme Tune’, will hopefully dent a vast number of sets throughout 2011. Grapevine chat suggests forthcoming re-fixes from Midland and Ramadanman, with the latter’s refix of Jamie Woon’s ‘Night Air’ establishing itself as a firm favourite on the floor this should stand Bashmore’s theme in good stead.
